[Religion] The Imitation of Christ, commonly attributed to Thomas A Kempis, a canon regular; faithfully translated from the Latin into French; by Philippe Chifflet, Abbé of Balerne, Vicar General and Canon of the Metropolitan Church of Besançon.
Antwerp, Plantinian Press, 1644, 8vo, bound in full calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, split joints, lower cap missing, double gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt edges.
Illustrated with a fine frontispiece and 5 separate plates by Nicolaus vander Horst, engraved by Cornelius Galle, with watermarks and the printer’s mark of Christophe Plantin at the end. Bookplates by D. Godefroy and a handwritten bookplate by Jules Bobin, bibliophile and bookseller, friend and executor of Huysmans’s will.
