Charles DICKENS. A set of 4 titles in 6 volumes:
- Dealings with the firm of Dombey and Son.
London, Bradbury and Evans, 1848, in-8, bound in half-basane with corner pieces, decorated ribbed spine, title label, marbled edges.
The illustrations, executed according to the author’s very precise instructions, comprise a frontispiece, an engraved title page with a vignette, and 38 plates by Hablot Knight Browne, including one in the mezzotint style: ‘On the Dark Road’. All the illustrations have been skilfully reinforced and restored.
A rare first edition, first printing, with the eight lines of errata on a separate leaf (plus additional errata).

1840–1841, 3 tomes in 2 volumes in-4, bound in half-shagreen with corner pieces, ribbed spine decorated with gilt fillets, gilt edges.
First edition of this collection of short stories, originally published in 88 weekly instalments under the same title, edited by the author from April 1840 to December 1841. Each volume is illustrated with a frontispiece and the set contains nearly 200 in-text illustrations by George Cattermole and Hablot Knight Browne.
In this copy, the title page of Volume II and the frontispiece are misplaced, but nothing is missing; the inner margins of the first two leaves of Volume I have been roughly repaired.
