[18th-century atlas] Johann Baptist HOMANN. Series Mapparum. Atlas comprising 70 double or fold-out maps (out of 93), all watercoloured except for two in black. These are preceded by three handwritten title pages. Atlas bound in full sheepskin, worn; the maps are mounted on tabs; a few tears, very minor losses, traces of damp and, towards the end, the last 16 maps are heavily affected by damp with losses. The maps are numbered by hand in ink from No. 1 to No. 93. Provenance: Jean Jacques Reinhardi Library (heraldic ex-libris). Johann Baptist Homann, born in Kammlach (Electorate of Bavaria) on 20 March 1664 and died in Nuremberg on 1 July 1724, was a German cartographer and geographer. In 1716, Homann published his masterpiece, *Grosser Atlas über die ganze Welt* (‘Great Atlas of the World’). Several maps were produced in collaboration with the engraver Christoph Weigel the Elder. Homann died in 1724 in Nuremberg. His cartographic publishing house, Homann and Heirs, continued to operate until 1848.
