CARTIER Nightingale brooch, a delicately crafted bespoke piece in yellow gold and platinum, depicting a songbird perched on a branch as it takes flight; the bird is embellished with a pavé setting of approximately 2.50 carats of old-cut diamonds (2M) and centred with an oval diamond of approx. 1.20 ct (1C), bringing the total to over 3.70 carats; the ruby, cut as a cabochon for the fruit and facetted for the eye, completes this piece. Signed Cartier, numbered, Cartier master’s hallmark Circa 1943 D: 4.4 x 3.3 cm Weight: 12.10 g (Platinum 950/1000 & 18K gold 750/1000) Accompanied by an IAJA certificate of authenticity (XP3062-150626) stating that the brooch is a Cartier Paris creation, made to special order, and its case RC: chipped oval diamond Family provenance: This piece comes from the estate of Mrs Claire Yvonne Tricoche, née Frêne, who is regarded as one of the iconic models and muses of the French fashion designer Jean Patou in the 1930s. It has remained in the same family ever since.
