Description
A rectangular plaque with bevelled edges, made of metal with a dark patina, suspended from a Chinese braided cord.
The front is engraved in relief with a female deity seated on a throne, accompanied by two attendants, with two crossed banners above her head.
Inscriptions in Sino-Vietnamese characters, which translate as: ‘Mê Châu Ancestral Temple, a prayer for peace and good fortune’.
This is a votive plaque dedicated to the goddess Mazu (protector of sailors), who is popular in the coastal regions of China and Vietnam.
