Description
Riccardo SCARPA (1905–1999) Young Vietnamese girl. Bronze head with a brown-green patina, signed in relief. On a wooden plinth. Height: 23 cm. Provenance: Former Beau Collection (Saigon). A Venetian artist, this sculptor discovered the medium in his uncle’s workshops, where he practised direct carving. He was nicknamed the ‘glass chisel’. It was only later that he studied drawing and modelling. He settled in Paris in 1928.
