Description
Jean Delpech (1916–1988) Indochina School of Fine Arts (1934–1935). Prix de Rome 1948. The Clear River. (Upper Tonkin). Ink and black chalk on paper, framed under glass, signed, located and dated ‘43’ in the bottom right-hand corner. Dimensions: 23.8 x 31.3 cm (visible area). A French marine painter, postage stamp designer, engraver and illustrator, Jean Delpech lived in Indochina until 1935, where his father was an architect. This highly detailed composition, typical of Delpech’s talent as a draughtsman, evokes a foreshortened and phantasmagorical vision.
