Description
REIGN OF HIS MAJESTY KHAI DINH (1916–1926).
A bronze tripod incense burner with a brown patina, decorated with silver and copper niello work, depicting a scene from the novel *The Three Kingdoms*. The neck bears two inscriptions in Sino-Vietnamese characters: ‘eighth year of Khải Định’, indicating that the object was made in 1923, during the reign of Khải Định of the Nguyễn dynasty; and ‘Rong Tai Xin Zao’, the name of the workshop where it was made. The base probably bears the names of the patrons. It rests on a lotus-shaped plinth.
