Provenance: Collection of Mrs X, who has been committed to promoting Vietnamese culture since the 1970s and has actively supported Vietnamese artists.
Born in 1940 in Sóc Trang, Vietnam, Nguyen Trung is one of the leading figures in contemporary Vietnamese painting. An accomplished and renowned artist, his work is shaped by the influence of French painters and by the upheavals in the history of a country ravaged by war. Drawing inspiration from the European avant-garde movements, particularly Impressionism and Expressionism, Trung has developed his own pictorial language, in which silence and light interact with infinite delicacy.
His palette, composed entirely of subtle shades of grey, muted blues and orange-tinged yellows, envelops his compositions in a soft, subdued light, like an invitation to step into the canvas to discover its motif. The female form, the ideal of Vietnamese beauty and a recurring motif in his work, becomes an inner landscape, a space for contemplation where the flesh fades away under the brush’s discreet touch.
