The bold yet light touch lends these spontaneous drawings a genuine sense of poetry. Born in 1938 in Hai Duong, Be Ky was orphaned at a very young age and grew up in a province in northern Indochina. Despite difficult living conditions, she learnt to draw very quickly and loved drawing. She was adopted by the Haiphong-based portrait artist Tran Dac, who further introduced her to the art of painting. She has been exhibiting her work in Saigon since 1957 and now lives in the United States.
