Yunnan Fou. 12 colour prints drawn and engraved by A. de FAUTEREAU-VASSEL.
Cardboard portfolio with corner protectors. Complete with its 12 colour woodcuts, monogrammed by Alix de Fautereau (Alix Aymé). Each print is mounted on a sheet, captioned, numbered 5/50 in pencil in the bottom left-hand corner and signed in pencil in the bottom right-hand corner.

In a letter addressed to Maurice Denis, her teacher, Alix Aymé discusses her work in Yunnan Fou and the colour woodcuts she was practising, following the advice of “a Japanese man” (editor’s note: Foujita). It is an explosion of colour for the artist, who wonderfully captures “the blue Chinese women […] episcopal purples, cardinal reds and all the shades of orange (…) spilling out along the cobbled streets”.
