A very interesting and rare collection of family correspondence between Victor Jean and Caline Tardieu, comprising a set of letters and two envelopes:
1924–1929.
- A letter in a stamped envelope from Jean Tardieu, dated 1924, addressed to his father Victor Tardieu at Rue Reinach in Hanoi.
- A 16-page letter in a stamped envelope from Caline, dated 30 September 1926, addressed to her husband in Hanoi.
- An 8-page letter from Victor Tardieu, dated 24 April 1929, addressed to his son Jean.
- Two letters from Victor Tardieu, one dated 5 November 1929 and the other from 1929, addressed to his wife Caline.
- A letter from Caline, dated 29 April (?), addressed to her husband.

In a letter addressed to his son—whose literary trials and promising early steps he follows with a certain emotion—Victor Tardieu also shares his artistic reflections. We can see his deep conviction that artistic creation must be rooted in tradition and the great importance he attaches to the study of the ancients – a cornerstone of the entire curriculum at the Indochinese School of Fine Arts, which he founded in 1925. Above all, and in a manner entirely unprecedented in the history of art, he discusses his thoughts on the creation of the great fresco at the University. This letter is therefore a crucial testimony to what the Italian masters called *Il Disegno*.
It also reveals Tardieu’s literary passions, notably a few lines on his discovery of the third volume of Marcel Proust’s magnum opus, *In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower*, published in 1918.
