Description
A blue-and-white porcelain tea set, known as ‘Hué blue’, decorated with a crane perched on a rock adorned with a flowering cherry branch, ‘Mai Hạc’ (“The Plum Tree and the Crane”), and a poem calligraphied in Nôm, comprising: a tray, one large cup and three small cups.
Blue mark on the underside consisting of two characters: My Ngoc. Collector’s incised mark on the tray, the saucer and beneath the base of the three cups.
Made in China for Vietnam, 19th century.
Tray diameter: 17.3 cm.
Saucer diameter: 13 cm.
Cup diameters: 6.8 and 6 cm. Three cups rimmed with metal.
(Minor chipping and hairline cracks).
Tea service decorated with a crane perched on a flowering rock beside a blossoming cherry branch. Two-character blue underglaze mark reading ‘Mỹ Ngọc’. Incised collector’s marks on the tray, the saucer and on the base of the three cups.
