Bambara, Mali, mid-20th century. A ‘Buru’ single-piece call horn with a beautiful curve and a phallic-shaped mouthpiece at one end. A protrusion has a hole drilled through it for carrying. The musician can produce ‘wouah-wouah’ effects by covering the end of the bell to varying degrees. The ‘Buru’ horn is played during initiation rituals or festive gatherings. Beautiful deep black patina. In playing condition; produces sound easily. L: 60 cm Sold with its stand
