Ngbandi, Central African Republic, mid-20th century. Resonance box of a seven-string ‘Kundi’ harp from the Ngbandi people of south-eastern CAR and north-eastern DRC. Neighbours of the Zandé, they, like the Zandé, practise the art of the Kundi harp. A distinctive feature of their harp’s construction is that the arched neck is attached directly to the top of the head. The soundboard is made from a thin sheet of metal. A beautiful figurative object with a rich patina from use. H: 37 cm
