Description
Large gong with stand, from Chinese opera. The weathered wooden base and its inscriptions suggest it dates from the late 19th century (late Qing dynasty). The inscriptions translate as ‘Hall of Respect and Harmony’ and ‘Mansion of the Upper Chamber’.
The hammered bronze gong is of substantial thickness. It has a beautiful tone. Diameter 49 cm.
