Valentine Gross worked for Jacques Copeau and his studio at the Vieux-Colombier. Jacques Copeau left for the United States in 1917, having been invited to direct the new Théâtre français in New York, where he re-established the Vieux-Colombier company. On 5 December 1917, he revived *La Navette*, a one-act comedy by Henry Becque, with costumes by Valentine Gross. She also designed the costumes for François de Curel’s *La Nouvelle Idole*, which premiered on 8 January 1918, and those for Alfred Capus’s four-act play *La Veine*, which premiered on 3 March 1919. ibid.
