Description
Netherlands, first half of the 17th century After an engraving by Bartholomeus Spranger (Antwerp, 1546–Prague, 1611) Medallion Gilded bronze. A rare subject depicting the Holy Family with the infant Saint John the Baptist and a musician angel. Partially effaced inscription on the reverse Height 12, Width 16.5 cm Period moulded and blackened wooden frame. S19.5 x 24 cm. Damage to the frame. Provenance: the collection of Jaques Guérin (1880–1962), chief curator of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Musée Nissim de Camondo, Paris. His descendants.
