Sèvres Manufactory, after Etienne Maurice Falconet (French, 1716–1791) The Bather amongst the Reeds Biscuit. Two marks: ‘Sèvres’ and ‘S1923DN’. Height: 33 cm. (damage to the rim) “Presented in marble at the 1757 Salon, *The Nymph Descending to Bathe* – also known as *The Bather* – was commissioned by the financier Thiroux d’Epersenne. As with *Amour*, the success of the biscuit piece no doubt prompted Falconnet to propose a companion piece to this work, *The Bather Among the Reeds*, as early as 1762” in *La Manufacture des Lumières.
