Description
Clock with sphinxes Patinated and gilded bronze, black marble. A pair of swans drinking from a fountain surrounded by reeds surmounts the enamelled dial, which is held in place by two sphinxes resting on pedestals adorned with senior officer’s stars. The stepped base is decorated with a frieze of palm leaves featuring Medusa heads. Four inverted spinning-top feet. Late 18th century–early 19th century. Height 52, Width 31.5, Depth 10 cm. Minor imperfections to the dials; the hands were originally fleur-de-lis-shaped. Provenance: private collection, Belgium.
