Found exclusively in the “Blue John” and “Treak Cliff” quarries at Castleton in Derbyshire, this material has influenced the production of decorative arts across the Channel. Although known since Roman times, it was rediscovered in 1743, before being mined around the 1760s. Neoclassical artists embraced it, particularly for the creation of vases known as ‘Campana’, named after the eponymous Italian collector, Giampietro Campana.
