Fireplace centrepiece depicting ‘Maternal Love’
Black marble and patinated and gilded bronze.
It comprises a clock and two figures:
- The clock features a dial signed ‘Dury-Cahen Lille’ displaying the hours in Roman numerals. It is surmounted by a figure depicting a mother and her child and framed by friezes featuring classical scenes. The rectangular base is accented by a frieze of laurel toruses. It rests on four claw feet. Brocot suspension.
- The figurative elements depict two women carrying water in the classical style, set on a square base decorated with friezes. The whole is finished with four claw feet.
Second half of the 19th century.
