Armand HOURLIER (1857–1935) "View of the ruins of the Palatine Forum in Rome" Watercolour on paper, signed lower right, inscribed with the location and dated "9 September 1884" Dimensions (viewing area): 33.5 x 23.5 cm Provenance: * Private collection, inherited from Dominique Henri Guifard Biography: Armand Hourlier was the son-in-law of Dominique Henri Guifard (Angers 1838–Paris 1913), a painter and decorator from Vineuil-Saint-Firmin who, in the second half of the 19th century, worked for the Duke of Aumale on the design of the décor and paintings for the Château and the Saint-Louis Chapel at Chantilly. Armand Hourlier was an architect. This watercolour demonstrates not only his keen eye for architectural detail but also his talent as a watercolourist.
