A smaller-scale version of the painting of the same name exhibited at the 1859 Salon and held at the Musée d’Orsay under the reference RF601.
((A pupil of Droling, he enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1840 and studied under the landscape painter Cabat.
He visited Italy in 1846–1847 with his friend Brillouin and developed an interest in nature. Having come second in the 1849 Rome Prize competition for historical landscape painting, he spent four years in residence at the Villa Medici. He worked in all genres, but is best known for his landscapes of Greece and Italy and his Italian genre scenes.))
