The son of Édouard Brindeau (1814–1882), a member of the Comédie Française, and Adrienne de Jarny, also an actress, the painter Édouard Brindeau de Jarny had an elder brother, the metalwork artist Paul Brindeau de Jarny (1858–1939). He moved in the fashionable circles of Paris during the 1900–1910 period before settling in Casablanca in 1919, from where he travelled throughout the Maghreb, as far as the High Atlas.
