Bronze cast with a brown patina on a sea-green marble plinth
Total height: 42 – Width: 16.5 – Depth: 15 cm
Signed ‘Dalou’ and bearing the foundry mark ‘Fumière et Cie’
Signs of wear and scuff marks on the marble

In 1895, the architect Formigé, who had collaborated with Dalou on several occasions, proposed that he sculpt the monument which the workers of a painting firm wished to erect in memory of their former employer, funded by public subscription. In 1896, the monument was unveiled on 1 November in the presence of the sculptor.
