Description
Regency-period tabletop clock
made of walnut wood, veneered with tortoiseshell and inlaid with gilded brass on both sides. On the front, a muse holding a book in her left hand, accompanied by a gilded bronze stork. The case is decorated with acanthus leaves and ears of wheat, with a putto at the base. The gilded dial is engraved with a radiant face; thirteen enamelled metal cartouches indicate the hours in Roman numerals (one cartouche reserved for the signature). The movement plate is signed ‘Jacques Coignet à Paris’. It rests on four scroll-shaped feet.
