Japan, Meiji era (1868–1912) Set of six Kutani-glazed porcelain plates, with a central design depicting women and children in landscapes, surrounded by a motif of birds and foliage around the rim; marked on the reverse ‘Dai Nippon Takasaka (or Gohan) zo 大日本高坂造’ in a black and gold cartouche, except for one bearing the mark of the commissioner/recipient: ‘Comianos and Sarolidis, Port Said, EGYPT’ (a famous photography studio on the Suez Canal in the late 19th century).
