Description
PIERRE GUASTALLA (1891–1968): a series of personalised greeting cards sent
by the artist (a French painter, engraver and illustrator, and founder of the group *La Jeune Gravure
Contemporaine) in the early 1950s. Original engravings (etchings or drypoint 11
) printed on greeting cards made of heavy-weight/vatted paper, numbered and initialled/signed by
hand (initials ‘P.G.’ or signature ‘Guastalla’). The cards date precisely from the
period 1950 to 1953 (the handwritten engravings ‘for 1950’, ‘for 1951’, ‘
for 1952’, ‘for 1953’ appear at the bottom of the print on each sheet).
Also included is BARAZER FRANÇOIS (1898–1981), an engraving/lithograph on paper
(monogram in the print) depicting The Couple / Adam and Eve, signed with his
usual monogram FB in a circle at the bottom right.
Circa 1930–1950 (the period during which the artist was most active in this type of illustration and
prints in a stylised figurative Art Deco/Modern style).
Crease in the top right-hand corner.
