Roger CAPRON ‘Molar’ tripod plant pot – circa 1950–60 Glazed ceramic with a multicoloured grid-pattern decoration Signed and marked ‘Vallauris A2’ on the underside of the base Height: 24.5 cm Multicoloured glazed ceramic with a grid-pattern decoration; signed and marked under the base Height: 9.65 in. Roger Capron was a leading French ceramicist and designer of the 20th century. Based in Vallauris from 1946, he played a part in the revival of French ceramics by creating decorative pieces, furniture and monumental works featuring geometric and natural motifs. His creations are distinguished by their warm colours, their intricate textures and the inspiration he drew from nature, everyday life and modern art. His talent was quickly recognised internationally thanks to several awards, notably gold medals at the Milan Triennale (1954) and the Brussels International Exhibition (1958). He also took part in the Vallauris Biennales and was the subject of a major retrospective at the National Ceramics Museum in Sèvres in 2003, confirming his place amongst the great French ceramic artists.
