34. Two paintings on glass depicting legendary figures on horseback from the poems of 'Antar ibn Shaddad Tunisia, Sfax, 20th Century gouache on glass, Arabic identifying inscriptions 19 x 29 cm.; 32 x 23 cm. with frames(2) The paintings appear to depict poems by 'Antar ibn Shaddad, known for his cavalry skills, and also about the chivalry of Imam 'Ali. In the painting depicting two riders on the same horse, the figures are identified as Sayyidna [our Master] 'Abd Allah, and al-Yamina, with various animals identified below. Both paintings have the inscription marsam baghuri, Studio Baghuri, in the lower left corner. There are also unidentified poems in Arabic, possibly meant to be those of 'Antar. There are two related paintings, originally acquired in Tunis in the 1960s, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (no. 914912).
