To be sold without reserve
James Rennell (1742-1830) was in the employ of the East India Company, and was Surveyor-General of Bengal (1764-77), and of Bihar and Orissa (1767-77). He was later one of the founders of the Royal Geographical Society.
In 1782 he published his first, groundbreaking Map of Hindoostan, which changed contemporary knowledge and the overall conception of India. Our French map is after his English version of 1788.
