JEAN DESPRÉS Pair of Art Deco cufflinks Pair of silver cufflinks, circa 1935, France. Signed, with Jean Després’s maker’s mark. Gross weight: 16.79 g. A French silversmith, jeweller and sculptor (1889–1980), Jean Després is one of the most distinctive figures in Art Deco jewellery. Trained in an aircraft workshop during the First World War, he developed a resolutely industrial and mechanical aesthetic, in stark contrast to the floral refinement of his contemporaries, which has earned him a prominent place in major museum collections today.
