Claude LALANNE (1925-2019) occupies a singular place in the history of 20th-century decorative arts and jewellery. Trained at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, she developed, alongside her husband François-Xavier Lalanne, a poetic universe deeply inspired by the plant and organic world. The artist restores a familiar dimension to sculpture, blurring the boundaries between sculpture, art object and jewellery. Using galvanoplasty, a technique that enables natural elements such as leaves and flowers to be covered in metal, Claude Lalanne preserves the textures and details of living things with great finesse. Nature is thus transformed into precious, delicate and timeless works. The artist draws on an abundant repertoire of plants: ginkgo leaves, buttercups, gooseberries, hydrangeas, guis and mimosas become emblematic motifs. His collaboration with Artcurial in the 1980s and 1990s gave rise to limited-edition creations, often numbered, including the "Mimosa" necklace and the "Mistletoe" and "Hydrangea" pairs of earrings, the jewels featured in the sale. Through this association, Lalanne's aesthetic became widely known, gradually establishing the artist as a major figure in contemporary jewellery design.
