Description
GIANMARIA BUCCELLATI (1930-2015) Two "furry" or "furry" ducklings au naturel, in 925‰ silver, one standing on its legs, the other lying down, the body and plumage in silver wire, the beaks and legs in vermeil. Signed on a rectangular soldered plate "Gianmaria Buccellati". Italian work (Workshop 763 MI). Dimensions: 12.5x13.8x6.5cm and 17x8.9x7.7cm approx. P. Gross: 180 and 181.5 g. (The silver threads are slightly missing). Buccellati is renowned for its jewellery, but above all for its goldsmithing. These objects are representative of his favourite subject from the outset. Throughout the work of his workshops, the inspiration of the animal and plant world plays a key role for both Mario Buccellatti and his son Gianmaria. The table decorations in the "Furry" collection, still on sale in their shops today, feature a varied bestiary: birds of all kinds, forest animals (foxes, squirrels, deer, wild boar) or more exotic animals (such as pandas, monkeys, giraffes, felines, etc.). In these impressive 'sculptures', which measure from a few centimetres to 70cm in height, the accumulation of silver threads gives a realistic, naturalistic fur look.
