(Slight scratches, bumps and deformations). In the 1980s and 1990s, CARTIER distinguished itself by producing numerous collections - the most emblematic of which are the "Panthères" - combining yellow gold and a very specific material: silverium. This material was developed by goldsmith and sculptor Lucien VACHEY - who registered a patent for it in the 1980s, as well as several other patents in the years that followed - and is an alloy of silver blackened in the mass. As a jewellery workshop, Vachey also produced many pieces for CARTIER, such as those shown here. This material is particularly remarkable because its colour is tinted into the mass, as opposed to surface tinting techniques, ensuring that the colour of the jewellery produced is long-lasting. These pieces, combining gold and silverium, take us back into the history of jewellery workshops, which have been particularly active in developing new techniques and know-how, and have been key suppliers to the great Parisian jewellery houses, making a major contribution to their international renown.
