Length: 50.5 cm Necklace comprising 24 oval amethysts arranged in a cascade, set with yellow gold. Original box bearing the inscription ‘By appointment to H.M. the Queen Jewellers Wartski... London...’. Dated from the early 19th century. Gross weight: 80 g. Length: 50.5 cm Now based at 60 St James’s Street, in the historic St James’s district of London, Wartski is one of the most respected institutions in the London market for antique jewellery and art objects. The company was founded in 1865 by Morris Wartski, an immigrant of Polish origin who settled in Wales. The first shop opened in Bangor before the business expanded to Llandudno and then to London in the early 20th century. What truly established Wartski’s international reputation was its expertise in Fabergé works. Following the Russian Revolution, jewellery and objects from the imperial aristocracy began to appear on the European market. Wartski’s directors, notably Emanuel Snowman, acquired numerous pieces directly from the former Russian imperial collections. For over a century, Wartski has served an aristocratic and royal clientele. The firm now holds a Royal Warrant and is the official jeweller to King Charles III. Unlike many jewellers who prioritise commerce, Wartski is also recognised for its research work. Its directors and experts regularly publish reference works, organise museum exhibitions and collaborate with major institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum. Wartski does not merely sell objects; it helps to write their history and establish their provenance.
