INDIA, PUNJAB A very fine silk carpet A midnight blue field decorated with interlacing patterns of delicate flower stems and finely rendered foliage, surrounded by floral palmettes in shades of sky blue, antique gold and ivory, which also form symmetrical floral wreaths in the shape of stylised diamonds, framing a large, multi-lobed central medallion in ivory, inlaid with four symmetrically arranged pale salmon-pink floral bulbs. Eight borders, the main ivory one featuring rows of floral cartouches surrounded by stylised flower bulbs and foliage. Circa 1980 184 x 123 cm (remarkable finesse, good overall condition)
