The town of Saint-Esprit, situated in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, was renamed Jean-Jacques Rousseau in 1792. Furthermore, Saint-Esprit was a major centre of Sephardic Judaism in south-western France. More than half of the town’s population was Jewish at the time of the French Revolution. Among the signatories were Mayor Soarez, Tavarez the Elder, Léon, Valéry the Younger, Dandrade the Younger and Bernal.
