Prayer for the High Holy Days.
4 pages, in-8 format. Scribe’s handwriting, possibly Italian. Probably 17th century.
The text is organised in the form of a responsory (liturgical chant), between the cantor and the congregation. The cantor highlights the unworthiness of the nations, whilst the congregation extols the greatness of the Jewish people. The liturgical section for the Jewish people follows alphabetical order, skipping one consonant each time. The vocalisation, which does not conform to current standards, seems to indicate that the manuscript dates from at least the 17th century.
