(Creases). 27 x 33 cm. - Notes by the student Isaac Bloch on letterhead paper from the Séminaire Israélite de France. 4 pp in-4, two of which are blank. (Folds, tears and missing sections). - First-level rabbinical diploma (Morénou) issued in Paris on 4 March 1873. Printed by A. Marx Cahen in Paris, with the blank spaces filled in by pen. Several signatures, including that of Rabbi Isidor. On vellum. (Creases). 30 x 46 cm - Diploma of the second level of rabbinical studies (Morénou Harab) issued in Paris on 6 November 1877. Printed by A. Marx Cahen in Paris, with the blank spaces filled in by pen. Signatures of the members of the Central Consistory. On vellum. (Folds). 30 x 46 cm - Letter on letterhead of the Ministry of Public Instruction and Fine Arts informing Mr Bloch that he has been appointed an academic officer. 1 page, quarto. (Folds). - Handwritten report of the meeting of 17 October 1882 of the Israelite Consistory of the Oran district, concerning the departure of Chief Rabbi Isaac Bloch. 3 handwritten folio pages on the Consistory’s letterhead. (Reinforced folds and tears). - Decree appointing Mr Isaac Bloch, then Chief Rabbi of Algiers, to the post of Chief Rabbi of Nancy, replacing Mr Libermann. 4 quarto pages, 2 of which are blank, on letterhead of the Central Consistory of the Jews of France. Dated 14 May 1890. - Order appointing Mr Bloch, then Jewish chaplain at the Lycée de Nancy, as an officer of the Ministry of Education. Dated 27 July 1905. (Folds). 25 x 40 cm. - Decree appointing Mr Isaac Bloch, then Chief Rabbi in Algiers, as an Officer of the Academy. 24 x 38 cm - Authorisation for Isaac Bloch, Chief Rabbi of the Jewish Consistory of Nancy, to wear the second-class decoration of the Order of Michân Iftikhar. Dated 18 March 1891. Vellum, painted decoration. (Folded) 38 x 48 cm - Letter on letterhead of the Central Consistory of the Israelites of France, addressed to the members of the Jewish Consistory of Nancy. Dated 15 April 1891, this letter concerns a request to send Rabbi Bloch the documents he must provide in order to wear the insignia of the Order of Nichân Iftikhar. 1 pp. in-4. - Letter on letterhead of the Central Consistory of the Israelites of France, addressed to the members of the Jewish Consistory of Nancy. It is dated 30 December 1890 and states that Mr Bloch is required to pay the administrative fees relating to the authorisation to wear the insignia of the Order of Nichân Iftikhar. 1 pp. in-4. - Official letter informing Isaac Bloch, Chief Rabbi of Nancy, that he has been appointed to a post outside the city. Dated 11 September 1891. 3 pp. folio. - Decree on letterhead of the Nancy Academy establishing an Arabic course at the University of Nancy and appointing Mr Bloch to teach this course. Nancy, 23 April 1907. 1 pp. folio. - Removal of Chief Rabbi Isaac Bloch from the electoral roll of Nancy for registration on the electoral roll of Paris, dated 19 October 1919. 1 pp. In-4 This collection of documents concerning Isaac Bloch is probably unrivalled. They trace his rabbinical, military and academic career. He spent part of his academic career in Algeria.
