[THE DREYFUS AFFAIR] Émile BERGERAT. Autograph letter signed, dated 2 August 1899, addressed to Mr Huret; 1 page, in-8. In this letter addressed to the journalist Jules Huret, Émile Bergerat, art critic for the Journal Officiel and editor-in-chief of La Vie moderne, expresses his outrage regarding the 1899 Rennes trial: ‘Oh! What a disgrace, my friend, what a disgrace and what a pain it is to live in a time and in a country where such an atrocity as this Rennes trial is possible!’ Also included: Fernand LABORI (1860–1917). Autograph letter signed dated 1 November 1896 and written in Paris; 2 pages, in-8. In this letter, F. Labori, one of Alfred Dreyfus’s defence lawyers at the Rennes trial in 1899, requests a meeting on the recommendation of Émile Faguet.
