Le Papier du Bordereau. Extra-light tissue paper. Antiseptic. Anti-nicotine [Paris], June 1899.
An extremely rare set of 6 cigarette paper packets from the series of 10 packets created to illustrate 10 key moments in the Dreyfus Affair, with the aim of raising public awareness of the Dreyfusard cause.
These are numbers 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 10.
They are illustrated with images from the Dreyfus Affair and portraits of its defenders. These booklets take the form of a three-panel leaflet, printed on both sides. On the front of one panel are the brand name, characteristics and properties of the paper (pelure); on the front of another panel is an illustration of an episode from the Dreyfus Affair up to 1899. In a medallion is the portrait of a prominent figure who spoke out in ‘defence of the Law and the Honour of France’ (sic).
Inside all the booklets (on the reverse), there is a summary of the Affair between 1894 and 1899 ‘in fewer than 400 words’ and a facsimile of a fragment of the Bordereau.
The sheets of paper are inserted into the booklet. Very good condition.
