Case for the Declaration of Independence of the State of Israel.
Silver-plated metal

Height: 38.5 cm
A rare, limited-edition replica of the case originally designed by the artist David Heintz Gumbel to hold the Declaration of Independence.
Engraved on the case is the verse from the Book of Isaiah: ‘Never again shall the moon and the day meet’, along with the following inscription: ‘Declaration of Independence signed by the members of the People’s Council, Friday 5 Iyar 1948’.
At the end of the War of Independence, the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, regarded as the country’s most prestigious art institution, commissioned one of the lecturers in the goldsmithing department, the artist David Heinz Gumbel, to create a case for the Declaration of Independence.
The original case is kept at the Israel State Archives.
