Marc CHAGALL (1887–1985) (after) Ulysses and Eumaeus, 1989 Marc Chagall’s illustrations for the story ‘The Odyssey’ pay homage to Homer’s epic. Chagall himself visited Greece on two occasions and was greatly inspired by ancient mythological motifs during his travels. Lithograph Unsigned On Fabriano vellum, approx. 37.5 x 29.5 cm Excellent condition INFORMATION: Limited edition of 2,500 copies, printed as lithographs with 8 to 12 colour passes for each plate in order to perfectly reproduce the finesse of the original edition. To ensure wider distribution of this work, which was very dear to Chagall, his wife Vava oversaw this second edition in 1989 (following the Mourlot edition of 1974 – Mourlot Catalogue Raisonné 749–830).
