The Nagas are an ethnic group on the border between north-eastern India and Burma, comprising some thirty tribes, hunter-gatherer peoples and great warriors with a reputation as ‘headhunters’. They lived in villages made up of traditional huts and remained attached to their ancient traditions, close to nature, and to their animist culture.
Their living conditions have changed, but they remain attached to their culture and village life, with woodcarvers crafting traditional pieces featuring their tribe’s emblems: the Calao, a bird; the Gaur, a semi-domesticated bovine… which were collected locally and which we find in this collection.
