Description
A camel pack saddle with two long, curved arms and three arches decorated with brass or metal plates on a wooden frame, probably dating from the Egyptian Campaign (1798–1801).
Signs of wear, damage and losses.

This type of pack saddle was used by the dromedary regiment of the Egyptian Campaign, established by General-in-Chief of the Army of the Orient BONAPARTE on 9 January 1799 in Cairo; it was commanded by Squadron Leader CAVALIER and Captain FANIÈRE and was disbanded on 5 September 1801. These packsaddles were manufactured in the Boukak district of Cairo.
