Paris, Plon, 1887. 4to, publisher’s green percaline board binding, polychrome decoration on the front cover, gilt lettering, 258 pp. First edition of the hunting memoirs of Donatien Levesque (1842–1908), the renowned master of the hunt from the Nantes region who hunted roe deer in the Forest of Paimpont. The book, brimming with anecdotes, also contains an account of a fox hunt at the Duke of Rutland’s estate, deer hunting in Devon and Somerset, a description of the drags at Pau, and so on. Illustrated with charming black-and-white drawings by S. Arcos. A very fine copy. Edges and corners rubbed. Provenance: The hunting library of the late Don Javier López de Ceballos
