The lives of illustrious 19th-century huntsmen, mainly from Poitou and Vendée, but also from Charente, Limousin and Anjou, with reflections on the history of hunting parties and dogs, and numerous anecdotes about these colourful characters. The book concludes with the short story ‘Monsieur Vieuxbois’, a warm portrait of a Poitevin huntsman, painted with verve and talent.
