A comprehensive and detailed dictionary of all terms relating to the various types of hunting and wildlife at the end of the Ancien Régime. Preceded by a brief bibliography on the subject (5 pages) and an ‘Essay on Hunting and Fishing: Historical and Bibliographical’ (37 pages), and followed by a ‘Treatise on the French Police Regulations Concerning Hunting and Fishing’ (62 pages). Adorned with two attractive metal-engraved title vignettes, including a scene of a stag hunt, which were not included in the second edition. Flecks of foxing and some browned leaves. Binding rubbed.
